What 'editing' a PDF actually means
People expect a PDF to behave like a word processor document, and it does not. A PDF describes where marks sit on a page; it has no concept of a paragraph that can reflow when you change a word. That is why genuine text editing in a PDF is either impossible or produces mangled spacing.
What works reliably is a markup layer: text, highlights, shapes and images placed on top. That is what this tool does, and being clear about it saves a lot of frustration. To change the original wording, edit the source document and export a fresh PDF.

A serious warning about black-out boxes
A black rectangle drawn over text hides it visually and leaves it in the file. The text underneath can usually still be selected, copied or extracted by anyone who thinks to try. This has caused real, public embarrassment for organisations that should have known better.
If the information merely needs to be visually de-emphasised, a black box is fine. If it genuinely must not be recoverable, remove the whole page with Delete Pages, or redact it in the source document before exporting.
What to do when you genuinely need to change the words
Sooner or later the answer is not markup. A price is wrong, a name is misspelled, a clause needs rewording — and covering it with a white box and typing over the top produces a document that falls apart the moment someone selects the text or the font does not quite match.
The reliable route is to go back to the source. If the PDF came from a word processor or a design tool, fix it there and export again; that takes minutes and produces a clean file. If someone else produced it, ask them — a corrected PDF from the author is worth far more than a patched one from you.
Where no source exists, a scanned document being the usual case, be honest about what you are doing. Adding a visible correction and initialling it is a recognised and defensible practice. Silently painting over the old text and typing new words on top is not, and on anything contractual it is the kind of edit that gets noticed at the worst possible moment.
